Pizza Talk – Less is More Theory

We all love pizza, meaty, cheesy, veggie… the choice is yours but I don’t know even one person who has something against pizza as a general idea. It all depends what you top it with and when it comes to toppings, as it ended up, “less is more”… or so I was told!

We all love pizza, meaty, cheesy, veggie… the choice is yours but I don’t know even one person who has something against pizza as a general idea. It all depends what you top it with and when it comes to toppings, as it ended up, “less is more”… or so I was told!Ever since we started making our own pizza Mark has always reminded me that when it comes to pizza “less is more”… fine, whatever…. Now in my eyes “less is more” was always about the quantity of each type of topping and not about how many toppings there are as a whole. However after some seriously overloaded pizzas I had to admit he was right

A few weeks ago, I was making an order from our local pizza delivery place. We had company, we all fancied pizza and we didn’t fancy cooking, especially given that we only own one pizza stone so we can only cook one pizza at the time, thus making pizza for bunch of friends can often take almost the entire evening… conclusion, take away it was… I took it upon myself to make an order.

Well looking at the choices, which are rather good and being true to character I decided to go for the fully loaded option: cheese, tomato, onion, green pepper, hot salami, pepperoni, ham, beef, prawn, mushrooms and fresh tomato… the order was placed and then the nightmare began… no one wanted to eat the pizza I’d ordered!

Everyone wanted something simple like peperoni and pineapple or ham and onion… OMG, how boring is that!

I just couldn’t believe my choice of “everything” would be so unpopular! Apparently “less is more” works also when it comes to picking the total number of toppings… I was informed once more that less toppings = more defined flavours = better pizza… again OMG please tell me it can’t be true!

So using you all as a jury I ask you all, what do you think?

Does the “less is more” theory work for you when you think about pizza or are you a believer in the “fully loaded” like me?

I would really want to know what topping are on your favourite pizza, especially if you are incorrect and pick the “less is more” option 🙂

  1. I am not really a pizza person but I do like the mighty meaty version from Dominos and I do agree less is more as I like crust more than any toppings.

  2. I think I’m one of those ‘less is more’ for toppings on pizza, I always go for pepperoni – simple and very tasty!! One of my local pizza places have started to do a pepperoni with siriracha sauce on it and I’m hooked. x

  3. ive never really thought about that! i love pizza and the toppings depends on the mood I’m in. sometimes i love a fully loaded, but other times i prefer the simple ones

  4. Oh after having a gastric band i cant have bred or dough so i cant have pizza anymore but this post is making me drool! I think hawaiian is best!

  5. I have to admit I love a good pizza – I think my favourite toppings have to be pepperoni or ham and pineapple depending on my mood – I’m not one for lots of toppings. x

    1. Ham and pineapple pizza is an aberration, an affront in the nostrils of God. I posed this very question in church this morning and He snorted, I heard it clearly as if He was standing behind my pew. …Of course it MIGHT have been E.B., who is elderly and prone to fits on occasion.

  6. I am not the biggest fan of pizza but when I do have one I keep it simple – Spinach and egg along with cheese and tomato and that is usually it x

I love all comments :-)
