4 Ways To Boost Your Body Confidence

If you’re not happy with the way you look, now could be the time to make some changes. Whether you’re self-conscious about your weight or you’re not happy with your hair, a lack of body confidence can really take its toll on your self-esteem and even your quality of life. To help you feel better about your appearance, take a look at the following four tips.

Banish those bad hair days

It’s amazing how much a good haircut can affect your confidence. So, if you’ve started to feel like every day’s a bad hair day, why not book an appointment for a restyle? Switching up your hairstyle is a great starting point for an image overhaul. Whether you go shorter, get extensions, go curly, go straight or change colour, your new do could help to put a spring back in your step. Check out this season’s latest trends online or pick up a magazine for some inspiration, and don’t be afraid to try something completely new.

What if you’re worried about thinning hair though? It’s not quite as simple as booking a restyle if you’re concerned that your locks are falling out. You’ve probably heard about men’s hair loss treatments. For example, Finaseride for hair loss, which is better known under the brand name Propecia, is taken in tablet form and it can be an effective treatment for male pattern baldness. In fact, 90 per cent of men who use it experience hair regrowth. You might not realise it, but there are specialist treatments available for women too. For example, if you have female pattern baldness and you want to stop or reverse your hair loss, you may want to try out a lotion containing minoxidil. Up to a quarter of women who use this treatment see hair regrowth.

Find sustainable ways to get in shape

Are you sick of perpetual dieting and do you struggle to stick to your fitness routine? For many people, losing weight is a lifelong battle. However, there are ways to make getting in shape easier. For example, rather than trying to completely cut certain foods out of your diet, why not simply reduce your portion sizes at meal times? This is much easier to keep up than a restrictive eating regime.

When it comes to exercise, try to find ways to incorporate more activity into your daily schedule. For example, could you swap your car keys for a cycle helmet on your commute to work? Cycling to and from the office each day can be a great way to burn calories and get fit. If you catch the bus, perhaps you could try getting off a couple of stops earlier to give your legs more of a workout. Simply getting into the habit of taking the stairs rather than the lift should help you burn calories too. You could also test out a new sport. From swimming to badminton, there’s no shortage of options.

Don’t expect miracle results straight away, but this sustainable approach to shedding weight makes it easier to stay trim over the long term.

Revamp your wardrobe

For an instant body confidence boost, treat yourself to some retail therapy. Refreshing your wardrobe with some gorgeous new clothes is one of the easiest ways to feel better about yourself. Make sure you pick out silhouettes that flatter your figure, and try out new combinations and colours to really revamp your look.

Even if you’re waiting until you’ve trimmed down to restock your wardrobe, there are still some staples you can pick out that should make you feel great about yourself. From chic blazers to fabulous footwear and showstopper jewellery, some new additions to your clothing and accessory collection could work wonders for your self-esteem.

Stop comparing yourself to others

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, resist the temptation to continually compare yourself to others. It’s virtually impossible to feel good about the way you look if you’re always judging yourself against images of airbrushed celebs. Instead, focus on learning to love your quirks and features. Doing this should help you to carry yourself with more confidence and it could save you a whole lot of stress.

Homemade Coffee Scrub

Reduce food waste and make yourself the best scrub you had ever had… trust me, your body will thank you for it.

Reduce food waste and make yourself the best scrub you had ever had… trust me, your body will thank you for it.

The idea for the scrub came from my friend Kate. Some time ago I was blabbing away to her about my new shop bought scrub and she told me about her DIY version… The difference is Kate has oily skin, I have dry skin, so I took her recipe and messed around with the measurements and added a bit of coconut oil as a carrier to make it glide on to my skin more easily… the results are perfect and I absolutely love it!

Coffee is a great antioxidant and it has some wonderful anti-cellulite properties; recently it has been appearing in the ingredients list of more and more beauty products especially those designed to fight the so called “orange skin” effect. It will help tighten and tone the look of your skin as well as get rid of any dead cells.

Coconut oil has unbelievably good moisturising properties. The fact that it is solid when left alone is a big plus as it makes it quite easy to handle and yet as you gently scrub it will heat up and then become a liquid allowing you to moisturise your skin at the same time.

Himalayan salt is the purest and the healthiest of the sea salts out there. It works as a great detoxifier and it will help with removing toxins from the skin leaving it feeling refreshed and well energised.

Cinnamon has been used for years to treat various skin disorders like acne or eczema, it stimulates the blood vessels, has nourishing properties and it can help with many forms of skin irritation.

Therefor when all these ingredients are put together they create a truly powerful scrub which works like no other.

I have extremely dry skin and normally I have to be very careful as to what I use but I’ve been using this scrub for a while now, including on my face, and I have not experienced any side effects, nor any redness or discomfort of any kind. I can highly recommend this DIY wonder mixture!

Ingredients:

  • 50g coffee grounds
  • 1tbsp organic, raw coconut oil
  • 1tbsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp coarse Himalayan salt

Method:

In a bowl mix the coffee (I used the old coffee from my coffee filter machine but if that doesn’t appeal you could always use some new coffee straight from the pack), cinnamon and salt, add coconut oil and try to combine. This process isn’t easy as your coconut oil is in a solid form but as you are mixing it will break into smaller chunks and with time it will form a sort of bread crumbs… once you get there you are done.

Move into an air tight container and use as needed.

This portion size should be enough for two full body treatments.

The scrub works wonderfully. The ingredients are beauty friendly and your skin will feel amazing, I am sure of it.

Fight Back Against Aging with Light & Laser Procedures

Aging is never a fun process, but there are certain aspects of it that you don’t have to put up with. One of those is the physical manifestation of age that shows up on your skin. It could show up in the form of unwanted hair in strange spots, sagging skin, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. But it will definitely show up. If you are finding yourself starting to see some of those problems with your own skin, light and laser procedures could help you.

Aging is never a fun process, but there are certain aspects of it that you don't have to put up with. What’s the Difference Between a Light Treatment and a Laser Treatment?

You may have seen information about Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy before, and you may have assumed that it was the same as laser treatment, however, the two types of machines produce two very different types of light with very different properties.

IPL generally produces a wider beam of light with some color variation and a mild temperature. IPL devices produce mild light that is meant to stir up skin cells in a broad way. The idea is that the rays or pulses that go down deep into the skin will nudge the body into action. It will be tricked into believing that cells are damaged and need to be repaired. That will lead to collagen production increasing and skin eventually looking tighter and healthier.

On the other side of the coin you have laser treatments. A laser is a very specific, focused beam of light. It generally produces a decent amount of heat, and it is monochromatic, meaning that it is all one very clear color. The most obvious difference between lasers and IPL in terms of treatments is that lasers can accurately treat specific spots on the skin or remove small patches of unwanted hair in a specific way. IPL, on the other hand, tends to be a more all-encompassing treatment performed on a large section of skin.

Types of Laser Treatment Devices

Medical laser equipment comes in many forms. The devices can be split into two basic categories of at-home and clinical tools. The at-home laser devices can be purchased by individual people who want to treat their own skin. However, the lasers that are the most useful for treating skin problems are also far too powerful to be used at home. They are designed only to be used by professional technicians in a clinical setting.

Professional laser devices can also be subdivided into several categories. There are ablative, non-ablative, fraxel, and CO2 lasers, to name a few. Each type serves its own purpose. For example, fraxel laser treatment involves drilling tiny columns through multiple layers of skin, while ablative treatment involves resurfacing the top layer of skin. Different types of lasers can be used, depending on the skin condition or conditions that you are dealing with.

Types of IPL Treatment Devices

As with lasers, there are different types of IPL devices as well. Some are meant to be used at home, while others are meant for clinical use. However, even clinical IPL treatments are not as strong as lasers. They are more of a slow, steady treatment method involving many ongoing appointments. Laser treatments are also sometimes done across several appointments, but their results tend to present themselves faster and last longer. Nevertheless, they sometimes come with discomfort or mild side effects that IPL treatments don’t tend to have, which might factor into your final choice.

Would you consider a light or laser procedure to help you stay younger for longer?

Review: Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel

Puffy eyes, dark circles and dull looking eyes can be a problem for many of us. Lack of sleep, incorrect diet, tiredness or excessive stress can only make it worse. I know that this isn’t only my problem, most likely we have all been there at one time or another; we looked in the mirror in the morning and wish we hadn’t.

As much as I wish to lead a perfectly healthy and stress free life, get at least eight hours of sleep every night and have no problems and worries, this isn’t going to happen and I know it, so instead of trying to achieve something virtually impossible, I have turned for help to creams, gels and serums.

Lately I’ve had the opportunity to try the new Vitamin C Eye Gel from Bonapiel.

I’ve never heard about Bonapiel before but whilst checking out their website I came across their risk-free guarantee – basically if you aren’t 100% happy with your product, you can return it for a full refund. They give you 365 days to try it out. Well this gave me some confidence as there isn’t a lot of companies out there who would offer such a risk-free guarantee.

But back to the eye gel…

Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel comes nicely boxed making it suitable as a gift. Inside the box we have the gel itself, which comes packed in a 15ml pump bottle. The bottle is security sealed so you know no one ever “played” with your eye gel before.

The gel itself is colourless and fragrant free. Its texture is… well… gel like 🙂 It’s quite watery and it spreads with ease. One pump gives you enough product for a single application. It leaves your skin well moisturised and radiant looking. I have very dry and sensitive skin and I didn’t experienced any irritation or redness.

In addition to Vitamin C, the eye gel also contains green tea and cucumber, which both lightens the skin around the eyes and reduces puffiness so you look more refreshed and youthful!

As per the website description Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel should help you with:

  • dark circles and puffiness around the eyes
  • “crow’s feet”
  • reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • creating a more youthful radiance
  • protection against future signs of aging
  • moisturizing and smoothing your skin

I have to admit, the gel works well and it does what it is supposed to do. Currently priced at £24.97 via amazon.co.uk it offers good value for money. The size is small but as it is only eye gel and the single pump is enough for one application, it should keep you going for a month or two.

In general I am very pleased with my new eye gel and I can honestly recommend it to others.

What’s your must have beauty product when it comes to eye care?

Have you ever tried any Bonapiel products before?

* I received the product mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. The opinions expressed in this review are honest and my own .

How do you check the age of your skin care, perfumes or make-up?

How do you check the age of your skin care, perfumes or make-up? Have you ever wondered just how old your skin care products really are? Is that brand new, just bought mascara still in date? Is this rare vintage perfume you found on eBay actually still going to work?Have you ever wondered just how old your skin care products really are? Is that brand new, just bought mascara still in date? Is this rare vintage perfume you found on eBay actually still going to work?

All… or almost all cosmetics are marked with a PAO – Period After Opening – this is the open jar symbol with numbers inside of it… 3, 6, 12, 24 months after opening… no problem there… you buy something today, you open it and you know exactly how much time you have until the product starts to deteriorate.

But what about the specific production date itself?

Obviously even unopened products can’t be perfect forever especially if they are not stored correctly and there is often some sort of a cut-off point after which they may start to be unsafe to use.

According to EU law, the manufacturer isn’t required to put an expiration date on any cosmetic products, unless their shelf life is less than 3 years. So all those face creams, perfumes, eye shadows and powders which normally have longer shelf life come with no date… or at least not a date which can be easily spotted or read by anyone without an insight but there is a solution…

CheckFresh is a website which helps you decipher batch codes of most publically available cosmetics and it will provide you with a date of manufacturing; then you can decided if the product is or isn’t safe to use.

This is one of my recent discoveries and I wish I had known about it earlier.

The CheckFresh website is easy to use:

  1. Select the brand you want to check
  2. Look at the pictures and read the batch code description – you would be surprised how much they might very from brand to brand
  3. Type your batch code into the box
  4. Press check and tada…
  5. The information is there… right in front of you!

Old cosmetics can contain harmful microbes and it is really important not to use something which is seriously out of date, especially if you have sensitive skin.

I actually checked the entire contents of my make-up bag… well… needless to say, I need to go shopping as some of my favourites had to go to the bin… better safe than sorry, right?

Check out the website, it’s free to use and tell me what you think about it?

Now you know what I know, do you think it would be helpful for consumers if all cosmetics had an expiry date clearly marked on the packaging?
