Keeping Kids Hydrated

Water is essential for life therefore it’s a crucial part of our diet… after all we are nearly two-thirds water! Many of us forget about the importance of the right hydration levels or simply have not enough knowledge on how to ensure it but the right hydration level is crucial to our wellbeing and development, especially for young children so we should do all we can to get it right!

Two out of three parents have no idea how much water their kids should intake every day. Infants and young children have a higher proportion of water in their body mass when compared to adults so it’s especially important to maintain the correct hydration level.

A child between the age of one and three needs about 1.3 litres of fluids a day, this amount will rise depending on your child’s activity levels or the weather conditions. Some of those liquids will come from the food they eat but most of it will require serving as a drink.

Drinking water is a perfect choice as it provides the required liquids, helping with hydration without additional calories in the child’s diet. But plain water can be a little bit boring, can’t it? Well, this may be true but we should lead by example. If you drink water instead of juices or canned drinks, the chances are that your child will do the same. The best tip from me is to “get them whilst they are young”. If your child will get used to drinking water at a young age, they will most likely still drink it when he or she is all grown up. It’s much easier to teach them this good habit when they are young… as it might really become a nightmare trying to convince them to swap fizzy drinks for example for water later on in life.

So what to do when plain water isn’t really an option?

Well, Robinsons to the rescue!

Future proofing the nursery

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart BearHug Desk from HelloHomeAs you might remember way back in March I shared with you our big dilemma regarding which furniture we should pick for the toddlers’ room. After much deliberation we settled on the lovely BearHug toddler collection from HelloHome as seen on the Worlds Apart website.

I’ve already shared with you our views on the BearHug storage stack and My First Ready Bed and today I would like to introduce you to yet another piece from the BearHug collection – the BearHug Desk.

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart BearHug Desk from HelloHomeThe desk, like every other piece from the BearHug collection, is designed around a bear theme. It’s made from sturdy MDF and it offers two built in storage pots. It looks wonderful and from the moment we put it together Leo just keep “playing” with it.

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart BearHug Desk from HelloHome. The desk is suitable for 18 months+. As you know Leo is just over 12 months old but with a little assistance and the inevitable constant supervision he can already use it during his play time. He is tall enough to keep his little feet firmly on the floor whilst sitting at the desk but he struggles a little bit with getting in and out of the sitting position. I think he just needs a little bit more time to grow into his new desk.

Future proofing our nursery with Worlds Apart BearHug Desk from HelloHomeFuture proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart BearHug DeskFor now he is especially fascinated by the two storage pots. He keeps hiding things in them which seems to bring him a lot of joy.

The desk is very easy to put together and it really doesn’t require a lot of maintenance. A simply wipe down with a damp cloth will keep it nice and clean.

I think that the BearHug desk is the perfect addition for Leo on his journey through toddlerhood. In the months to come it will give him his own little space to play and discover the wonders of the world around him.

The Bear Hug desk can be purchased at Very, Amazon or Littlewoods and price starts from as little as £49. The desk itself looks beautiful but it is worth remembering that it is a part of a much larger collection of toddler furniture which together would create a child friendly and extremely cosy environment for your little one.

What do you think about our new desk?

Do you like it?

10 Sentences You’ll Never Say, Until You Have Young Children

10 Sentences You’ll Never Say, Until You Have Young ChildrenWhen you have kids all adult conversation will go out the window and those days when you discussed nights out and the newest fashion trends with your friends will be long forgotten.

You may think you have said some strange things in your life, maybe on one of those nights out, but nothing will be as strange as what will come out of your mouth after living with a tiny human being. Kids can be pretty funny of course, but often the more comical sentences will come out of your mouth.

One parent, Nathan Ripperger, has created prints of sentences he has said to his kids, when he found that his responses were as funny if not more hilarious, than the comical things his kids were coming out with. He noted his sentences were like nothing he had said before and if taken alone and out of context they were the most bizarre things he had ever said.

You will find yourself saying phrases over and over again once you have kids, such as do not touch, eat up, because I said so, and come here now! But, here are 10 sentences you will almost definitely never say until you have young children.

1. My spidey sense tells me you are swinging on the curtains again Spider-Man, if you want to complete that outfit with those sandals from LamaLoLi you can get down and catch the bad guys another way!

2. Mmm thanks for making dinner, this mud and insect pie is delicious! Oooh there are worms in there as well, this is probably the best meal I have EVER eaten!

3. Oh no not that face again – have you done a poo? Come here so I can sniff your nappy!

4. Stop licking the cat! I know she licks herself but that’s how they have a wash, she doesn’t need your help!

5. Oh no don’t sit down you will sit on Bob. Yes actually, he is there now he’s invisible. *Because obviously your kids invisible friends become your friends!

6. Carrots go in your mouth, not your ear! Well if you don’t eat them then you will never be able to see in the dark. I know it is true because I always eat my carrots and I can see perfectly in the dark.

7. Have you been eating the crayons again? Well how did you end up with purple all round your mouth then? No, they are not for drawing on the walls either, we have…or should I say had nice wallpaper, thank you.

8. Please put your clothes on. No, you can’t go out naked in public. I can guarantee no one will be walking round the shops like that, we wear clothes when we go out don’t we?

9. Ok, it is time to put the lion back in his cage or you will be late for school.

10. Why is there lego in the chocolate spread? No, it is a toy! You can’t eat it for breakfast.

So there you go, 10 funny yet true things said that would only be said if you had a child in your life. I also bet that you could, if you stopped and thought about it for a moment, add another dozen things that you have noticed yourself saying and thought “Well I never thought that I would say that” 😉

Now I wonder what it was you said, care to share?

And I really can’t think of another human interaction that would make you say strange and bizarre things, can you?

Pool Fun, Cuddleroar & The Wicked Uncle

Pool Fun, Cuddleroar and The Wicked UncleI remember when I was a child I had my favourite wicked uncle. Most times when he came with a visit he would bring some really amazing gifts with him. Thinking back now, these gifts were not all that special by today’s terms but 25 years ago in Poland a pack of Donald Duck bubble gum or a pencil case with a set of colourful crayons was really something special.

I was hoping that everyone has a wicked uncle in his life but as it ended up this isn’t necessarily true. Talking to my friends not everyone had the opportunity to experience the thrill of wicked gifting during their childhood. I think that it’s a huge shame but worry not I tell myself as nowadays there is a solution, an online wicked uncle. Yes, you are reading it right, there is a website called Wicked Uncle and they stock brilliant presents for kids, just like the ones I would dream of getting from my own personal wicked uncle as a child.

We received an opportunity to shop with Wicked Uncle and pick something suitable for our little one.

The website is very cleverly designed making picking the gift a fairly easy task. For starters it is split into gifts for boys and girls. Within these two categories gifts are segregated into appropriate age categories. Easy… just as I told you 😉

I wanted to get something practical yet special enough so it would bring a smile to his face. As summer is approaching us and hopefully even more warm weather is on its way, I picked a Dinosaur hooded bath robe – Cuddleroar by Cuddledry.

1. Pool Fun, Cuddleroar and The Wicked Uncle 2. Pool Fun, Cuddleroar and The Wicked Uncle 3. Pool Fun, Cuddleroar and The Wicked UncleI think the robe looks really funky and it is extremely useful. It’s large enough to cover your baby / toddler after a bath and a closing nap just under the chin assures that robe stays in place keeping your little one warm and snuggly. The fabric of the robe is very soft and very absorbent. So far we have washed it 5 times and it still looks just like new.

Pool Fun, Cuddleroar & The Wicked UncleThe Dinosaur hooded bath robe – Cuddleroar costs £39.99. It might not be the cheapest bath robe out there but it for sure is one of the funkiest looking ones and it would make a perfect gift.

Did you have a wicked uncle growing up which would spoil you with unusual gifts?

What do you think about my gift choice?

Would your little one like a robe like this?

Future proofing the nursery

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds ApartWith the time flying by so quickly our nursery is now no longer fully functional. Baby has learnt how to crawl and he is wondering all over the house; to keep him still he needs entertainment and that means a lot of toys to keep him busy… and toys need storage space.

As it ended up we are lacking quite a bit in this department.

But not too worry… just when we were trying to figure out how to resolve this problem and what to buy Worlds Apart came to the rescue.

We were offered pieces for a review from new HelloHome collections:

HelloHome StarBright Toddler CollectionHelloHome BearHug Toddler CollectionBoth collections are truly beautiful, well designed and definitely child friendly, wouldn’t you agree?

We actually struggled with our choice; StarBright will go much better with the rest of the room colour wise, but BearHug is just so adorable that we simply couldn’t resist. Thinking about the future and what we would need to transform the nursery into a toddler room we chose BearHug… and thinking about the present and what we need right now we went for the BearHug storage stack.

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds ApartHelloHome BearHug storage stack comes flat packed and it takes literally just a few minutes to put it together. All you have to do is to attach a few screws to poles and you got your stack ready; really simple and totally foolproof, as they say, even I could do it.

HelloHome BearHug Storage StackThe stack itself looks beautiful; the pastel colours make them a suitable addition to any kids’ room and the bear faces just make them extra cute and friendly. We were wondering if the pink / red box will not look out of place too much in a boy’s room, but it doesn’t; it looks really great and it is adding that so much needed warmth into the room.

Future proofing the nursery with Worlds ApartFuture proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart.Future proofing the nursery with Worlds Apart...A very big plus of this stack is its weight or lack of. The stack is very light which makes it extremely portable and a breeze to move for cleaning. For now our BearHug storage stack has its place on the floor, box next to box, so Baby can reach and simply grab any toy he fancies at the time, but in the future when more toddler furniture’s will start to arrive in the room and floor space will become more of an issue, it will be stacked as it should or even placed on the shelves… as it ended up each box fits perfectly in our built-in unit; it almost like they were meant to be there from the beginning.

I know that in the future we will need even more storage to help keep all toys neatly in order but for this moment our BearHug storage stack is ideal and just what we need. I think it is a great starting piece for transforming a baby room into a toddler one. Next piece on the shopping list is the BearHug toy box; we just need Baby to start walking so he can reach into the box 🙂
