3 Steps to a Perfect Picnic

A picnic is basically an outdoor meal; usually served in a pleasing to the eye location on a blanket or if your posh, a picnic table. As a nation we love picnics, a little bit of blue sky and a few rays of rare to find sunshine and we are really up for an adventure.

Following this three steps below will help you achieve a perfect picnic experience.

A picnic is basically an outdoor meal; usually served in a pleasing to the eye location on a blanket or if your posh, a picnic table. As a nation we love picnics, a little bit of blue sky and a few rays of rare to find sunshine and we are really up for an adventure. Food

Food is one of the most important ingredients to a happy picnic. You can have the most beautiful scenery around you and a bunch of your best mates but once hunger sets in and the food isn’t up to scratch you will have a small disaster on your hands.

When planning picnic food think portability and ease of consumption. Sandwiches are always a safe choice, so are the various salads you can pick up but what about something more sophisticated? What about a quiche, tasty pie or a sausage roll? All of those can be cooked in advance or simply picked up from your local super store. Higgidy offers all of them and they are suitable to be eaten both cold and warm, so you don’t even have to worry about cooking them beforehand.

In addition to your main meal, pack some fruit, maybe a bag of crisp or pretzels and don’t forget about drinks too.

Location

Once you food is all sorted out, it’s time to pick the location. Somewhere pretty with easy access and enough space for everyone to chill in comfort. Also be considerate about the local neighbourhood. If you are planning a trip out with a large number of friends or family then think about the noise you will make when the conversation becomes animated and make sure you aren’t going to disturb anyone around you.

It’s pretty obvious that you will only invite people you like, love, care about or people who just make you feel good in their company but there is something else to consider… Your companions need to be in the right state of mind. There is nothing worse than trying to have a relaxing picnic when one of your friends can’t stand sitting on the ground or is scared of the ants living nearby. Think about things like if Mr/Miss Somebody (who has severe allergies) now, will they be happy to spend a few hours on a meadow or would you be better in the middle of the local woodlands. These are small things but if not considered they can ruin the entire day. Get it right and you are one step closer to that perfect picnic.

We personally like to picnic in our local fields, there is a nice spot between two fields, just next to a small stream; it’s always so peaceful and quiet.

Bean Bag Planet – Review & Giveaway

Bean Bag Planet Review & GiveawayI don’t know how about you but I have always wanted to own a giant bean bag to relax on, the kid in me just won’t let it go.

Well, I still haven’t found one that is suitable for my size but Bean Bag Planet did send one for Leo to “play” with… well at least someone can now have fun with a bean bag…

Bean Bag Planet - Review & GiveawayThe Bean Bag Planet bean bag is actually called a bean bag chair… I know, a bit confusing but let me explain why it’s called a chair. Well, you see this bean bag comes with 2 different covers:

  • Cover number one: New-born cover, which includes a strap and a buckle to secure baby in the right position.
  • Cover number two: Toddler cover without any strap or buckle.

So you see, it actually works more like a chair for a little person.

The Bean Bag Planet Review & Giveaway. The cover can be changed within minutes by simple unzipping one and zipping the other… simple.

Bean Bag Planet Bean Bag Chair retails at £64.99 but they are currently on sale at £29.99. There is a huge, and I mean really huge selection of colours and designs to pick from. I am sure everyone will be able to find something they like. There is also an option to purchase a spare bean bag refill. Not completely sure why someone would need it, but you never know… it might be useful one day.

The Bean Bag Planet - Review & GiveawayThe Bean Bag Planet Bean Bag Chair looks great and it is very well made. It looks much better in reality than in the pictures, they really don’t do it any justice.

For me the biggest plus of this bean bag is the fact that I can easily “dismantle” it and simply pop it to the washing machine for a wash. There isn’t any of this dry cleaning nonsense or even worse no washing option at all. We all know how messy kids can be so the fact that I can simply wash it in my own washing machine wins the day.

The Bean Bag Planet Review & GiveawayI hope you like the look of this Bean Bag Chair because Bean Bag Planet agreed to offer one as a giveaway prize to one of you.

5 Free Activities To Entertain The Little Ones Over The Summer Holidays

5 Free Activities To Entertain The Little Ones Over The Summer HolidaysAs much as the kids are excitedly anticipating their six weeks of freedom, away from school and homework, you are probably dreading it! Not that you don’t want to spend time with your children, but several long weeks of trying to find something to keep them constantly entertained can not only be stressful but also extremely costly.

These costs can range from £450 to £4,762 depending on how you choose to spend your break; it goes without saying that holidaying abroad will raise the costs significantly.

But what if you could keep them entertained without breaking the bank? Worry not, for here are five free activities that both you and the kids can enjoy over the summer holidays:

Arts and crafts
The ideal summer holiday would be day after day of sunshine and warm temperatures! Unfortunately the reality is that we often end up with several grey and rainy days. These days it becomes even harder to entertain the kids; you can’t just stick them in front of the TV all day everyday. But what do you do?

In preparation for such days, stock up on craft supplies from Craft Superstore, then the kids can cut, glue, stick, paint and colour, with endless possibilities of what they could create! Why not help them make something that they can continue to play with; a rocketship or superhero outfit perhaps?

Enjoy your garden
With a second heatwave expected this summer, and temperatures set to rival those of the Mediterranean, be prepared to make the most of it! These days, when the sun is shining fill up the paddling pool, turn on the sprinklers and dig out the beach ball. Then sit back and relax, top up your tan, read a good book, all whilst the kids have fun and keep cool. Who needs to be on a beach in Spain when you can do this in your own back garden?

Free attractions
Make the most of the attractions across the country that both you and the kids can enjoy without spending a penny! From museums where the kids will have so much fun they won’t even realise they are doing something educational during their break from school, to festivals, farms and parks! There are a variety of different things to explore, that we often don’t think to do because they are on our doorsteps, that won’t cost any money!

Cycle to the park
Dust off the bikes, pack up ham sandwiches and sausage rolls, and gather together some activities. Then cycle to the park and spend the day flying kites, kicking a football and feeding the ducks!

Document the holidays
Keep the kids entertained across the entire break by having them document their summer. This could be in the form of a scrapbook or diary. Take photos on days out, then get them to write, draw and stick in memorabilia they have collected on their break. This will not only be a fun way to keep them busy during part of each day, but also something they can look back on for years to come.

With so many free activities to choose from, there is no need to let the summer holidays rinse your bank account this year!
