How To Deal with Fever Phobia

Fever phobia as in the treating of a fever as illness in itself and the inappropriate over response to childhood fever isn’t as rare as one might think. According to the survey commissioned by Braun over 50% of parents lower their child’s temperature before it reaches a reading of 38.5°C.

Fever phobia as in the treating of a fever as illness in itself and the inappropriate over response to childhood fever isn’t as rare as one might think. According to the survey commissioned by Braun over 50% of parents lower their child’s temperature before it reaches a reading of 38.5°C.So why are we so afraid of a fever?

Well, there is only one answer which comes to mind… lack of knowledge.

It looks like many among us worry too much about a fever causing serious health problems without actually understanding it.

Fever is usually the manifestation of some sort of infection… yes, it might be uncomfortable for a little one but a fever is a sign of a healthy immune system fighting off the infection. Bringing it down prematurely can actually lengthen a child’s illness by stopping the body’s natural defence against the infection.

This is why it’s extremely important to know how high a temperature is actually a fever… to make it more complicated this changes with age… what is an acceptable temperature for a three year old can be classed as a high fever for a newborn.

In general, fever is defined as a central temperature higher than 37.5°C but slightly elevated temperature really isn’t a reason to worry about, just keep your eye on it.

How to deal with fever phobia?

  • Well, you might want to start with updating your knowledge about fever itself.
  • Secondly, buy a proper thermometer.
  • Third, stay calm and try to understand your child’s temperature before turning to medication such as paracetemol or ibuprofen or rushing to the Emergency Room.

Braun has tackles fever phobia by developing a range of thermometers that help you to measure your child’s temperature and are comfortable and accurate. Some of the new models include an Age Precision feature, which allows you to set your child age and the thermometer will alert you when the readings are elevated and how much elevated.

We were offered to test one of the Braun’s new thermometers. We received the Braun NTF3000 no touch + forehead thermometer and OMG it’s a brilliant piece of kit. After using in-ear thermometer for years, I have to admit, I totally love the no touch technology! It’s so much easier, quicker and most of all with no discomfort to the child at all as you don’t even have to touch them they won’t even know what you’re doing.

The Braun NTF3000 is small, light and stylish, it’s extremely ergonomic and it fits in the hand perfectly; it’s safe, hygienic and practical… I could go on and on and on…

The proximity sensor (up to 5cm) works brilliantly and the readings are super-fast.

The Braun NTF3000 features colour coding, which are in addition to the number reading, plus you can turn on a sound alarm if you wish to do so (just remember to turn it off for night time temperature checks or run the risk of waking someone up).

Once the thermometer arrived we must have use it 100+ times checking the temperatures of all household members and anyone else who would let us just to see how accurate it would be… well I would say it was super accurate with temperature changes of only 0.1°C.

The Braun NTF3000 has a RRP of £52.99 but a quick Google search brought up a few shops having it on offer below £40… frankly I think this is a steal.

It’s a brilliant thermometer and a definitely must have for any family with kids. From now on there will be no more struggles and pleads to hold your head still when it comes to checking temperatures as this simple task is now totally non-invasive.

Thank you Braun for this great gift! It really made life easier especially at times when there is enough concern and worry in a parent.

Sinivalia – UK Made Natural Skin Care

One of the perks of being a blogger is the opportunity to try products from brands I would most likely never have found on my own. With my dry and sensitive skin I am always on the lookout for new natural skin care products, but I have to admit, I’ve never came across Sinivalia before.

Sinivalia – UK Made Natural Skin CareSinivalia was founded by a team of women passionate about skin care who literally travelled the world in search of superior skin care ingredients. Their promise:

  • Never to test product on animals
  • Every product is safe, effective and gentle
  • Every products is manufactured to the highest standards with strict quality controls
  • 100% money back guarantee in case you are less than satisfied with the product

Well, with promises like that who wouldn’t want to try their range?

I was offered to pick a few products which would suit me best. I went for: Rose Gel – Natural Daily Moisturiser simply because it’s pink and I’ve never had a pink moisturiser before and a Face Cream which can be used by all skin types; these types of creams are always useful around the house so it seemed like a great choice.

So how are the products in use?

Let’s start with the Rose Gel, RRP £49.99 for 120ml, currently on sale at £21.99

Sinivalia – UK Made Natural Skin Care – Rose Gel – Natural Daily MoisturiserThe gel is pink! In addition to being pink which is super cute it’s extremely light and soothing with great moisturising properties. It absorbs very quickly leaving a lovely smell behind. Normally I am all pro scent free creams but I actually truly adore this rose gel… maybe because it smells of roses and who doesn’t love roses? I am not able to fault the gel itself or its properties in any way, I am however a little disappointed when it comes to packaging. The gel comes in a jar… ok, this is fine and despite the fact that this is my least favourite container for a cream I could live with it but the jar doesn’t have any security measures to assure that the product received it actually brand new and never used… there is no seal on the rim of the jar itself, there is so sealed wrapper around the jar, there is no box… I know it might be my OCD talking right now but as this is a face cream with RRP of £49.99 some sort of step to assure it has a tamper-proof protection would be nice or indeed expected.

Now, let’s move to the Face Cream, RRP £39.99 for 150ml, currently on sale at £21.99

First thing you notice is, it’s the size of the jar – a giant 150ml. The cream itself is pure white and extremely silky. From the first time I tried it, I really liked it. The cream is lightweight and it spreads with ease, kind of gliding on your skin leaving it super smooth, soft and well moisturised. The scent of the cream is quite strong but not very girly so I am sure it could be used by the male population as well with no big objections. Again, I really like the product inside but have the same problem when it comes to the packaging. The complete lack of any kind of protection against it having been opened before is very off putting, especially that both products have no expiry date, only PAO (period after opening).

So, to sum it up.

I like both creams… the creams as in the product inside the jars… but the packaging a big no, no for me.

Both creams are priced well, taking into consideration their natural ingredients list and their size, but unless the packaging will get some sort of make-over I wouldn’t re-order them.

Review: Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel

Puffy eyes, dark circles and dull looking eyes can be a problem for many of us. Lack of sleep, incorrect diet, tiredness or excessive stress can only make it worse. I know that this isn’t only my problem, most likely we have all been there at one time or another; we looked in the mirror in the morning and wish we hadn’t.

As much as I wish to lead a perfectly healthy and stress free life, get at least eight hours of sleep every night and have no problems and worries, this isn’t going to happen and I know it, so instead of trying to achieve something virtually impossible, I have turned for help to creams, gels and serums.

Lately I’ve had the opportunity to try the new Vitamin C Eye Gel from Bonapiel.

I’ve never heard about Bonapiel before but whilst checking out their website I came across their risk-free guarantee – basically if you aren’t 100% happy with your product, you can return it for a full refund. They give you 365 days to try it out. Well this gave me some confidence as there isn’t a lot of companies out there who would offer such a risk-free guarantee.

But back to the eye gel…

Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel comes nicely boxed making it suitable as a gift. Inside the box we have the gel itself, which comes packed in a 15ml pump bottle. The bottle is security sealed so you know no one ever “played” with your eye gel before.

The gel itself is colourless and fragrant free. Its texture is… well… gel like 🙂 It’s quite watery and it spreads with ease. One pump gives you enough product for a single application. It leaves your skin well moisturised and radiant looking. I have very dry and sensitive skin and I didn’t experienced any irritation or redness.

In addition to Vitamin C, the eye gel also contains green tea and cucumber, which both lightens the skin around the eyes and reduces puffiness so you look more refreshed and youthful!

As per the website description Bonapiel Vitamin C Eye Gel should help you with:

  • dark circles and puffiness around the eyes
  • “crow’s feet”
  • reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • creating a more youthful radiance
  • protection against future signs of aging
  • moisturizing and smoothing your skin

I have to admit, the gel works well and it does what it is supposed to do. Currently priced at £24.97 via amazon.co.uk it offers good value for money. The size is small but as it is only eye gel and the single pump is enough for one application, it should keep you going for a month or two.

In general I am very pleased with my new eye gel and I can honestly recommend it to others.

What’s your must have beauty product when it comes to eye care?

Have you ever tried any Bonapiel products before?

Why use comfrey ointment?

Why use comfrey ointmentComfrey is a perennial herb which can be found in Europe, Asia and North America. It has been cultivated and used as a herbal medicine for more than 2,000 years.

Greeks and Romans used comfrey to stop heavy bleeding, treat bronchial problems, and heal wounds and broken bones.

In recent years we discovered that its oral use might be toxic so a lot of countries banned it but it is still safe to use it in ointments, creams and salves.

Comfrey works on: muscle pains, joint pains and arthritis. It can speed up wound healing as well as reduce swelling. It really is a wonder herb.

Recently I was introduced to comfrey ointment from Remedinature. This odourless skin balm really does wonders.

Comfrey’s most important ingredient is the substance called Allatoin. Allatoin is believed to be a cell proliferator, able to strengthen skin tissue, promoting the growth and multiplication of cells and this is what facilitates the speeding up of the healing period.

Remedinature Comfrey Ointment comes in 60ml or a 120ml jar. The jar is dark brown so sunlight can’t penetrate inside, thus keeping the ointment fresh and safe for longer. The product is colourless and odourless and it’s nice to learn that it is not tested on animals; it has no chemical additives and it contains only natural ingredients!

The best bit I can say is, after some extensive testing myself, it works!

As an everyday example one of the first times I used it, it was to treat my skin after a particularly nasty insect bite; my skin was red, swollen and extremely itchy… within a brief time the ointment took all the itchiness away and that was a relief in itself. Hours later and the itchiness had still not returned and the redness had mellowed and the swelling had reduced in size…

Comfrey Ointment is a versatile remedy which can help in many situations and should be in every medicine cabinet I believe.

Have you had the chance to experience the joy of comfrey?
