Student food – beans on toast, pot noodles or cheap takeaways – quick and cheerful but not necessarily healthy nor nutritional. Lack of time, money and in most cases willingness to cook sits at the center of some students’ bad eating habits. So what if you could eat well with proper food prepared from scratch which doesn’t take an expert to cook, will not break your bank (socialising) balance and most importantly, doesn’t take a long time to prepare?

The Student Housing Company has put together the Better than Beans on Toast: The Essential Student Cookbook filled with easy creations which can be enjoyed by anyone, even busy students during mad studying times.
The cookbook contains 17 recipes covering breakfast, lunch, dinner and even yummy puddings for all you sweet lovers out there. The recipes were submitted by food blogs; they are tried and tested and once followed will deliver a delicious dining experience.
In this e-book, everyone should find something they like, or at least I would hope so. The recipes vary and some of them even cater to the vegan crowd out there. Ranging from Egg, Bacon and Cream Cheese Bagels, which actually look divine and I would strongly suggest checking them out to Chicken and Halloumi Stir-Fry or even our own favourite Triple Chocolate Almond Brownies, which are simply loved by everyone who tries them, the cookbook ticks all the boxes and should keep you well fed and going for weeks to come.
I was planning to share with you some of the recipes out here but in the end, I decided not to. Go on and check the cookbook out for yourselves, for now, all I will give you is the recipe list you can find in the book:

I have to admit, this is by far the biggest cook book I’ve ever had the pleasure to review from Parragon Books. Not only is it large in presence but it also has a solid feel with over 300 pages stuffed with ideas and inspiration. The picture above doesn’t do its justice as in reality the cover of the book is embossed but as much as I wanted to show it, I simply couldn’t photograph it in any way that it would be visible.
In addition, as with most books from the Love Food series, this cookbook provides tons of information about naturally good ingredients. You can find in there all the knowledge you could seek about food superheroes like chia seeds, wheatgrass, coconut oil or water and well as many more.
For us 2016 is a back to basics year; we have big changes coming and one of them is to go back to our roots when it comes to food… eat natural, eat clean and most of all eat healthy, so this cook book was a wonderful gift which I am sure will get a lot of use and you will most likely see a lot of recipes on the blog which were inspired by it.
Christmas is a truly magical time of the year. There’s the crisp, cool bite of winter, the smell of pine needles, twinkling lights and, if you are lucky, even a few jingle bells jingling, too. And that’s just outside. Inside cosy homes everywhere, the smell of fresh baked mince pies and biscuits mingle with the scent of the freshly cut Christmas tree… this is the beginning to the introduction… isn’t it a wonderful way to put you in the festive spirit?
The book itself is beautiful. The pages are smooth and shiny and they feel very luxurious. Each recipe has a clear pictures and the food photography is lovely, it really makes you want to recreate it and devour as soon as it is ready.
The cookbook contains a lovely selection of recipes which will keep your tummy full this Christmas without any hint of feeling guilty. There is a coconut Glazed Turkey which can be served with Coconut and Rosemary Roast Potatoes, lovely Vegan Maple, turnip and Carrot Mask and a Low Carb Gravy… and if dinner doesn’t take your fancy what about some High Protein, Low Sugar Yule Log or a Gluten Free Gingerbread Men? Still not convinced? Well, maybe Protein Eggnog is the one for you?
